What is it?
The 30×30 challenge has been done by other bloggers, and there are many variations on the rules, but the general gist is that you choose 30 pieces of clothing and remix them for 30 days, attempting to not repeat outfits. The goal is to learn more ways to expand your wardrobe.
For me personally, its been an exercise in better determining my personal style. I focus more on pieces that fit well and look good. I’ve noticed a huge change in my wardrobe attitude since my first challenge last year – a larger wardrobe can intimidate me. I feel more confident and attractive in clothes that I know what I can pair them with and what will look good on me.
Options for participating:
Some bloggers include jewelry and accessories in their 30 pieces. Some only do clothing. I personally do just clothes and shoes. Its entirely up to you and what is reasonable for your lifestyle.
Most bloggers choose to not shop for clothing/shoes/accessories during this time. I’m one of them, but I’ve been known to be weak and buy a piece or two – but I do try to save as much money as possible during the month.
In my experience, its much easier to do a batch of outfits than a blog post every single day, and so I put up five posts featuring six outfits each, plus the initial post to share the 30 pieces. I also provide link code to everyone joining me, so that we can all share links to posts of others participating in the challenge.
Not only was this a great way to find new combos in my wardrobe and develop my personal style (and save money while not shopping!) it was a GREAT way to meet other bloggers. The group in May was amazing – group emails of support and advice and some fantastic friendships came out of it. Also, due to everyone having the linky code, it led to extra traffic for everyone, and who doesn’t like page views?!
Future 30×30 challenges:
I’ll be hosting one per season. The current challenge starts on August 1st. The next challenge starts November 1st.
Then, I plan to keep the months the same every year (or until I get bored of these challenges, but I doubt it!):
