I had no intention on potty training Guinevere this early. While she has incredible verbal skills, little things like taking off socks (and pants!) are a challenge for her – and I didn’t think that “potty trained” counted if Guinevere couldn’t drop trou herself.
She expressed some interest over the summer and I always followed through with her requests to use the potty, but it would be three times in one day and then not again for a month – until this weekend.
Sunday, we picked Guinevere up from her nanny’s house as soon as she woke up (she’d had a sleepover while I had friends over for a blog party) and she stayed dry ALL DAY LONG (except for naptime). Ten times she told me when she needed to go potty (and get candy!) I never asked her if she had to go, or brought it up – it was 100% her, every time that day.
Monday, I expected some hiccups since she’d be at her nanny’s house during the day, but packed pull-ups and her favorite candy just in case. And sure enough, the same report – she told her every time she needed to use the potty and only had a soiled diaper at naptime, then came home to stay dry all evening as well.
Basically, Guinevere has yet again managed to completely take control in our household. I feel like potty training is some sort of parent rite of passage, and leave it to my kid to just completely potty train herself.
I’m not quite ready to switch her from pull-ups to panties – I am thinking maybe if this stays this way for a week we’ll try them on – but after two successful days it certainly seems like we’re on the right track.
Every time I look at her, I keep expecting to see a little baby – but she is such a big girl now. Its bittersweet – I MUCH prefer being the mama of a toddler, she is sassy and funny and smart and insightful. But it is strange to think that there is nothing “baby” left about my baby.
Also, don’t forget about my giveaway! You still have a few days left to enter here.

Our guest host this week is Natasha from Schue Love. Natasha is a gorgeous mama to a sweet one year old boy, Ethan. He’s a June baby like Guinevere and I just adored the first birthday party that Natasha put together for him here!
Our Tot of the Week is Ace from Perfectly Imperfect Mom. The gray jeans and bulldog graphic tee are so chic, but not surprising at all since his mama DOES own a tot clothing boutique 😉
- Trendy Tot Tuesday is a chance to talk about kid’s style, and pretty much anything goes. Pictures of your cutie, talking about their style (that you buy and dress them in, ahem!), a Polyvore board, linking to the new kid’s line at the Gap – anything! All ages welcome, from you sweet pregnant mamas stocking up a closet to the teenagers that probably pick all their own stuff out now
