After the last year of insanity (full time work + school + family), I was relieved to graduate this month and finally start catching up on life. And its taking a little longer than I thought I would, but I’m getting there. Reconnecting with Tyler has been incredible, and I especially love being able to play with Guinevere for hours without peeking at a textbook or tapping away on an assignment.
Now that I’m feeling back on track with my family, I’ve been trying to make my friends a priority. Happy hour with my high school best friend Kelly, dinner and drinks (and a slumber party!) with my best friends Sarah and Malia, and lunch dates with my best friend Jessie. And I realize it sounds like I have nine million best friends, but I don’t use that term lightly – I’m just that lucky to have a ton of amazing people in my life.
One of my favorite friends that I rarely get to see is my sorority little sister, Shirin. This is a girl I can go months without talking to (always my fault – never hers!) and we can seamlessly leap back into a friendship. She is someone of whom I’m terribly envious – world-traveled, speaks multiple languages, is wicked smart and a published author, and always seems to be headed on some exciting adventure (only recently back from visiting another friend of ours in Austria!). This past weekend she celebrated her birthday at a vineyard, and I was bound and determined not to miss it. And I may have been over an hour late (yikes) but I made it…and had the BEST time. It was super hot out, and Guinevere was on a crazy sugar high, but nothing beats a little girl talk with some college BFFs. And we scheduled another date for next Friday. Twice in less than a week!
Damn, it feels good to get my life back. And I suppose I’m now running out of excuses to not get more organized about blogging. Thats next on my list 😉
Happy, happy birthday Shirin. Any time I think of your birthday, I think of the time I was a Rho Gamma (for the non-greek, a counselor of sorts during sorority recruitment – and to remain truly neutral, you must avoid your own sorority sisters during that time) and I missed your birthday and all of the hilariously dramatic notes you snuck me. I love you
While there, I thought the gorgeous vineyard would make a fantastic backdrop for outfit pictures. Unfortunately, I missed the fact that there were spots on my lens (and I have no idea how to edit anything other than boost an exposure or crop) so those are unfortunate. I also recognize that I should have faced the other way to have the sun on my face, but this was the prettier background. That probably makes me an extra crappy photographer, for recognizing limitations and still saying “suck it” but one of these days I’ll find a happy balance.
If I had to define an outfit that Tyler hates, this would be it – he finds the pleated, silky harem pants bizarre and unflattering, and even still, would have preferred that I wore a tighter top that was tucked in. But I wanted longer pants to be able to sit in the grass if need be that would keep me cool, and I liked the black with the black and gold sandals. And they matched my favorite Molly Suzanne necklace. So poo on him, I’ll wear this again 😉
I spy with my little eye…a tiny blonde fairy dancing in the background behind me.
Guinevere was a particular bundle of hilarious this day. She kept going up to everyone all, “hey – you want to spin me?” and since no one can ever say no to her, they’d graciously get up and spin her until they were both dizzy. She was fascinated by all of the clover flowers and so I let her pick them and she’d run them back to me so I could make her a flower necklace. She was really interested in the daffodils but I told her they were off limits. She later convinced some of the girls to take her on a walk and came back with a bright orange nose – busted! I said, “Guinevere, have you been sniffing the daffodils?” “Nuh uh” she replied, hiding a bright yellow flower behind her back for a moment, until producing it and giving it to me with a big kiss.
How do you get mad about that? You don’t.
Holding the daffodil. Also, baby peplum and daisy chain necklaces…*dead*. I love this kid.
