I can’t even remember the last time that Tyler and I went out together without Guinevere. We were really great about scheduling “us” time after she was born, but between work and school this past year I barely had time for a goodnight kiss, let alone a date. This weekend, her nanny happily kept her for a few hours so that Tyler and I could go out to dinner. We went to one of our favorite local spots, Monza. I frequently talk about how much I hate my house (too big) and the location (too far from DC) and the area (too suburban/chain store/restaurant-y) but Old Town Manassas has really stepped up their game in the last five years. There are several options there that we love to visit and Monza is my favorite of the bunch – small, consistent staff (I’m a sucker for a regular bartender), great food, and good beers – they have two of my all time favorites, Allagash White and Port City Optimal Wit. They also recently expanded their patio, and this weekend had a small band playing outside. I almost feel like I’m back in the city. Almost.
We had a really fantastic dinner and then as we’re walking to the car with our fingers entwined, excited to see Guinevere for a few minutes before she had to go to bed and looking forward to Part Two of the night (hubba hubba), I did the dreaded “wife blogger” move – put our takeout box on a bench and pulled out my camera. Tyler is always a good sport, but he really really hates being married to a blogger. He hates being in pictures. And taking pictures. And me talking about things like SEO, Twitter, Instagram and Followers. He is a humble guy – dislikes being the center of attention, and super dislikes attention whores that thrive on attention (aHEM). He’s not shy, but he has never understood the appeal of blogging your life for people to see. And when I mention things like 60K visitors in a month, and he computes all of those strangers reading things about us and our life – well, its downright amazing he even lets me name him on here. Quite frankly, I’m expecting him to ask me to come back and edit all posts to give him a pen name and blur his face one of these days.
Me? The world is my stage. I love being the center of attention and meeting people. I like going out and parties, and while sometimes I might feel silly taking pictures in public, for the most part – I really don’t care. So I did ask Tyler on a quiet street where there seemed to be no passersby to snap some pics – until we finished, and I looked over and realized that an entire Barber Shop was staring out the window at us like we had three heads. Sorry, Ty. You really are a rockstar husband!
