When Tyler told me about our anniversary trip to Richmond, I was glad that he gave me a little bit of a heads up to pack. First off, I’m in the middle of my August 30×30 challenge, and second – I wanted to look hot.
So I packed some fantastic outfits and threw on a tank and shorts for the drive down. Except, once we got to Richmond we realized that my suitcase was still in the kitchen. I’d asked Tyler to grab it for me, and he didn’t hear me, so all I had was make up and toiletries and the clothes on my back. Dangit.
After lunch at a super yummy local taco place called Don’t Look Back, we decided to wander through Carytown (a miniature Portland, Oregon – super darling/twee/hipster little town) so I could find a dress and some heels. There were lots of vintage/thrift stores, but nothing my style. Thank god for iPhones and GPS – we made it to a Target in ten minutes. I know the stock in my local Target inside and out and knew exactly what I’d grab there to get my weekend back on the right foot. Except this teeny little Target in Richmond didn’t have a tenth of the stock of my store. No high heels. No cute dresses. Nothing.
Rather than buy something dressier that I’d never wear again, I decided to buy a pair of sandals I’d been eyeing anyway and a silky black tee, and just embrace the casualishness of it all. Not like me at all, but what else was I going to do?
Do I wish I’d been in my hot Asos dress and heels? For sure.
Did I still have an incredible evening with my husband? Definitely.
