When we found out that we were having a girl, we’d muse throughout the pregnancy of what type of person she would be, or what interests we would have. Tyler grew up with a sister who danced, and in his memory he sat through long, boring recitals, so he hoped for faster-paced sports. I always desperately wanted to do dance, and knew I’d enroll her in classes if she wanted. Later, we decided that cheerleading would be awesome – football games to support her school, then watching our girl.
The truth is, she can be on the debate team or math team, and we’ll still be just as proud of her, but we do hope she at least stays active with interests and organized activities.
I’d hoped to get her into an activity this summer – either dance or swimming lessons. Both only had available slots during the week, which is to be expected in Stay at Home Mom-ville suburbia where I live. But, gymnastics had a Saturday class, so we signed her up!
I wasn’t sure what to expect, and it was a lot of work – wrangling a two year old who wants to do WHAT SHE WANTS, WHEN SHE WANTS, OMFG, instead of following the teacher’s instructions. There were several mini tantrums, but luckily, some of the other moms had the same issues I did. I even met a blog reader in the class, which was exciting – I love when people introduce themselves, and we’re going out to lunch next week if our girls cooperate! Tyler joined us for the first class and took some pictures, and I’m SO glad he caught her in action!
This part is her favorite – a giant pit filled with foam cubes. She can leap into it, or slide down the slide into it, and spent most of last class trying to escape other sections to go up to that activity!
They also have two built-in trampolines which she LOVES but only one kid is allowed at a time. So she spends her time waiting her turn crying with this face, HA.
The jury is still out on if we’ll continue through the Fall, but if she still seems to love it, I definitely would love to see her enjoying herself!
