Since birth, Guinevere has had issues with her ears. Dozens of ear infections led to tubes last January, but they didn’t work – we’ve been back every two weeks since the surgery and always find out that they are clogged or infected. We were then referred to an allergist, as allergies can be a cause of ear issues, and while these are probably only contributing factors we discovered that she is allergic to some molds, dust mites, and dogs.
The dog allergy is inconvenient at best – seeing as how we have two dogs and her nanny has one. At first, I thought we would be fine since our Bichon Frises are “hypoallergenic” but not so much for Guinevere – she’s allergic to them too. And to combat the dust mite allergy, among a dozen other precautions, we need to rip out the carpet from our upstairs level and install hardwood floors.
Luckily, this was always on the house wishlist. Unluckily, they aren’t free 😉 But we’ll do whatever it takes to get that little girl feeling better.
This also means that since we’re redoing the floors, it makes sense to start thinking about Guinevere’s big girl room. When we revealed Guinevere’s all white and gold nursery, I heard a few comments about how impractical it was for a child. I might have agreed, except that I never intended for her to stay in that room. I love the hardware, the decorations, and the metallic stenciled wall, and I knew I could never paint over it, so that room was always to become my new office when she moved next door, into the large guest room. The switch also makes sense since it has two closets and will be a great size for her as she gets older.
Currently, it has been our very boring spare room. I always think about adding some wall art and accessories in here, but since it is used maybe twice a year, it always ranked low on the priority list. So this will be the most “complete” picture that will exist of it before we start ripping everything out this month!
The rug was originally in our great room (seen here) and I LOVE it. Unfortunately, it now will need a new home as well, since the only other room it could possibly go in is my current office (soon to be dressing room) which is purple…and it just won’t match. So if anyone local is in the market for a gorgeous, wool, 8×10 rug – email me 😉
In addition to ripping out the carpet, we’ll be removing the bi-fold closet doors (they NEVER stay shut!), the baseboards (will be replacing them with much taller boards like in our playroom), casing in the windows, and installing crown molding.
Until a week ago, there was a brown vanity dresser under that mirror, but I recently moved it into my office to hold my sewing machine, but it matched the dresser. Not sure what will happen to both pieces now, but since they belonged to my grandparents, I’d love to find somewhere for them in our home!
“We”…I’m so funny. Tyler will be doing all of the installation, while I’m scouring Pinterest for decoration inspiration. Right now I’m leaning towards a coral-y orange, sunny yellow and white, with accents of turquoise…bright, happy colors. But I saw a raspberry and lime green room last week that has me rethinking everything. So stay tuned…or just stalk me on Pinterest 😉
