Everyone loves saving money, myself included. However, I don’t have the patience to be a couponer, and I also rarely have the patience to price shop in stores, so the bulk of my shopping is done online.
I discovered Ebates two years ago, and have been obsessed ever since. Right around this time of year I always email my friends and family telling them how awesome it is for holiday shopping. Most online gimmicks seem too good to be true, or like total scams, but I’ve received a lot of money back from using Ebates, and am sold. I can’t tell you how many text or IM conversations with Tyler have him mentioning buying something, and I demand that he go through Ebates. And the one time I myself forgot to use it? I promptly cancelled my order, and redid it through their site. So when they contacted me to do a giveaway? You better believe I was alll over it. This was a post I’d planned to write anyway, and now you guys benefit even more!
It really is as easy as they say. Sign up, visit their site, and then click from their site, to the site where you want to shop. And earn cash back. They send quarterly checks or Paypal, whichever you prefer, and usually by then I’ve forgotten about it, so it feels like free money. Also? When you sign up, you get a bonus. Your first purchase of $25 or more earns you a free $10 giftcard. Additionally, anyone that signs up under your link counts as a referral that can go towards additional bonuses you can earn. (Disclaimer: That means if you sign up through my link, I am getting credit for you.)
All stores offer varying degrees of percentages of cash back, but last year right before the holidays there were a TON of double cash back offers – so stores that were normally 4 or 6% would suddenly become 8 or 12%. So the online purchase I was going to make at, say, Kohls, for $100, now earned me $12 back. Plus, they list a ton of coupon codes on the store pages for their site, so I almost always also get x% of a discount, free shipping, etc.
1. Pick up in store. Lots of stores these days have some sort of option online where you can order online, and pick up the item in the store. I LOVE this because its so much easier to just walk up to Customer Service and get my item, I don’t have to wait a few days for it to be delivered, and I’m getting credit for the cash back. I did this just last week for a chandelier I bought at Lowes for my office. I found the one online that I wanted, bought it online (with a coupon code!), picked it up in store 20 minutes later, and also got cash back. For basically no extra effort.
2. Checking other stores for cheaper products. Over the summer I got my monthly email reminder from 1800contacts that I probably needed to order more contacts. I did. So I went on Ebates, and they actually weren’t affiliated with 1800contacts, which I thought was a bummer. But when I did a search for contacts, I found another site that had my exact same brand/prescription, for half the price at 1800contacts, and with a 25% off coupon code PLUS the cash back. I wouldn’t have normally thought to shop around, but I saved over $100 on my order.
3. Flowers. Sending flowers is one of the best ways to tell someone you are thinking of them, appreciate them, etc. And starting soon you’ll see beautiful arrangements for Thanksgiving dinner tables, and pretty evergreen wreaths for doors. These are usually unreal cash back percentages, as much as 19%, and so I love to take advantage of them around the beginning of December.
4. Planning ahead. I already have a pretty good idea of where things are that I need, or want to buy. I know which stores I like to shop for myself and Guinevere, I have started making my list of what I plan to buy others for Christmas, and I keep tabs on those stores in the emails from Ebates. You can change your settings, but I like to get the daily notification, so I can see what deals and coupons are being offered. Today’s daily deal? Shoes.com. They have a 20% off sitewide code, free shipping, and 17% cash back. I also know that Guinevere desperately needs some winter shoes, and I never turn down an opportunity for more deals. OF COURSE I placed an order.
They are constantly adding new stores (my beloved Amazon seems to add a new department every week!) and I have this website on my Google Chrome “Top Six Websites” dashboard because I visit it THAT often.
So here’s the fun part. Want to win $100? Ebates is giving YOU $100, just for signing up! If you are already a member, make sure to note the email address that you use to sign in. Otherwise, you can sign up through one of my links, easy peasy! That is the only mandatory action to enter, but because everyone loves contests, I’ll throw in extra opportunities to win. And you can tweet or mention on your blog about the giveaway every day for extra points if you want, if you REALLY love entering contests, haha.
Rules: Must be an active member of Ebates, or sign up. That’s it. Contest ends Sunday November 4th…good luck.
