Tyler and I had our second annual pre-Thanksgiving dinner for our friends. We did it for the first time last year, and it was a great success, so we decided to do it again.
We had 6 couples over, making 14 of us total. I was pretty worried about having a group that large in our home, but it ended up being a great sized group, and we could have easily had a few more couples.
I had appetizers set up for when guests arrived – spinach and artichoke dip, cheddar crap dip, red pepper hummus, spicy meatballs, and artichoke and cheese stuffed pastry puffs. I also had red and white wine, beer, and caramel apple martinis set up.
Luckily, everyone was super late – first couple was 10 minutes late, and last couple was 45 minutes late. Awesome, since I completely underestimated how long it would take for dinner to cook!
I had ceasar salad and dinner rolls. For the entrees, I had stuffing-stuffed turkey meatloaf rolls, herb crusted baked chicken, and a rib roast. For sides, I had wild rice, steamed broccoli and cheese, roasted vegetables, and set up a mashed potato bar – with a whole bunch of toppings including french fried onions, different cheeses, chopped bacon, diced tomatoes, etc.
I did make my job a little easier and have a girlfriend make some amazing pumpkin desserts – cheesecake, pie, and the oh so delicious Rachel Ray pumpkin whoopie pies.
We borrowed tables and chairs, and set up one long table. I picked up chocolate brown tablecloths, and used my wedding china with chocolate brown linen napkins. For centerpieces, I just scattered mini pumpkins and glass votive holders with white candles – pretty simple.
We had a really fab group. They are people that now all know each other through Tyler and I, and have become friends with each other in return. Its a really good feeling having our friends become friends, because it makes events like this so much more fun.
After dinner we played Balderdash, until it started getting a bit inappropriate as we all drank more, and then we gave up in favor of socialization
Tyler and I will definitely continue doing this for our friends in the future, and I love that we’ve created a fun little tradition for ourselves and those that we love
